It differs from traditional nail polish in that it requires a special curing process to dry and set, resulting in a longer-lasting and more durable finish. Here's how gel polish typically works: Preparation: The nails are cleaned and prepped, including shaping, buffing, and pushing back the cuticles, similar to a regular manicure. Base Coat: A thin layer of clear or colored gel base coat is applied to the nails. This base coat helps to adhere the gel polish to the natural nail and provides a smooth surface for the color coat. Color Coat: One or more layers of colored gel polish are applied to the nails, with each layer being cured under a UV or LED lamp for a set period of time. Gel polish comes in a wide range of colors and finishes, including glossy, matte, shimmer, and glitter. Top Coat: A clear gel top coat is applied over the color to seal and protect the nails. The top coat adds shine and helps to prevent chipping and fading. Curing: After each layer of gel polish is applied, the nails are placed under a UV or LED lamp to cure or harden the polish.
